As Wikipedia states, "The Five W's (5W) [..] are questions whose answers are considered basic in information gathering or problem solving". While the roots of the 5W go back to classical antiquity, they are still of interest today, also for technical conferences on the design and verification of integrated circuits: As we all know, each and every dedicated ASIC design and verification engineer loves to gather information (knowledge and experience) in order to solve problems (build cutting edge ASICs using latest technologies and methodologies). So, let's have a look at the five W's of DVCon Europe:
Who is involved?
Well-known members of the European engineering community come together to share experiences, with participants from many key players of the ASIC industry (Intel, Arm, NXP, Infineon, Bosch...).
What will happen?
The Design and Verification Conference & Exhibition Europe (DVCon Europe) is the premier industry-driven European conference on existing and upcoming Electronic Design Automation (EDA) standards, languages and methodologies for the design and verification of electronic systems and circuits. DVCon Europe is a strongly technical and practical conference, which is organized for the community by the community.
Last years' DVCon Europe attendees represented more than 79 separate companies and organizations from 22 different countries, the number of paper and tutorial submissions grew, 21 exhibit booths including all major vendors were present.
There will be two keynotes given by prominent industry speakers, attractive technical paper tracks, several tutorials on newest developments, two panel discussions on provocative topics, and an exhibition showcasing leading tool, IP and service providers.
On top of that the SystemC Evolution Day, taking place on October 23rd, is now co-located on site with DVCon Europe 2018.
When will it take place?
October 24 - 25, 2018.
Where will it take place?
Dowtown Munich, Germany.
Why should you submit?
Because you may have a significant impact on what will happen: just submit a paper, propose a tutorial, or prepare a panel discussion during the April timeframe. This gives you the chance to present and discuss your work with industry experts from your field. Submissions are open now.
Main topics of focus are
- System-level design
- Verification and validation
- IP Reuse and design automation
- Functional safety and security
- Mixed-signal and low power design and verification

The DVCon Europe Steering Board hopes that "our" 5W caught your attention. We look forward to your submissions and hope to see you at DVCon Europe 2018 in October. Of course, you may also join to discuss about 5G J.
