The mobile industry is eagerly working towards 5G, the next generation of cellular communication.  5G will be a game changer, facilitating new services, e.g. for autonomous driving and Industrial Internet-of-Things. To meet 5G’s promise will require not just new wireless frequency bands and radio tech but also a much smarter, data-oriented network, pushing the limits towards ultra-high bandwidth and ultra-low latency solutions.

This special interest session with industry experts from Intel, Nokia and Rohde&Schwarz will provide insights on the path to a 5G Internet-of-Things, highlight the Spectrum opportunities and challenges, and offer also a Test & Measurement perspective.

Presentation Title: Towards 5G Internet-of-Things – Automotive and Industrial IoT

Biography: Sabine Roessel joined Intel in December 2012, where she initially worked on LTE/LTE-Advanced feature analysis and product definition for Intel’s high-end and Cellular IoT modem platforms. Since 2015, she has been active in 5G Internet-of-Things conceptual work and 5G prototype development. In 2016, Sabine was appointed Senior Principal Engineer at Intel Corporation. Before joining Intel, Sabine was leading the entire Nokia LTE Research and Standardization Program. Her earlier roles and technical areas included LTE product management, Mobile WiMAX business development, GSM/Edge base station development, RTL design, and electronic design automation research. Sabine holds a diploma in theoretical solid state physics, about 30 issued patents, and more than 50 patent application filings in LTE/LTE-Advanced, network and device implementation, and 5G New Radio. She is author of an electronic design automation textbook chapter on high-level behavioural synthesis. Her recent publications and panels have been at Mobile World Congress 2015 and 2016, Intel Developer Forum 2016, as well as at Globecom 2015 and 2016.

Presentation Title: Spectrum Opportunities and Challenges of 5G

Biography: Werner Mohr was graduated from the University of Hannover, Germany, with the Master Degree in electrical engineering in 1981 and with the Ph.D. degree in 1987. Dr. Werner Mohr joined Siemens AG, Mobile Network Division in Munich, Germany in 1991. He was involved in several EU funded projects and ETSI standardization groups on UMTS and systems beyond 3G. Werner Mohr coordinated several EU and Eureka Celtic funded projects on 3G (FRAMES project), LTE and IMT-Advanced radio interface (WINNER I, II and WINNER+ projects), which developed the basic concepts for future radio standards. Since April 2007 he is with Nokia Solutions and Networks (now Nokia) in Munich Germany, where he is Head of Research Alliances. In addition, he was chairperson of the NetWorld2020 European Technology Platform until December 2016. Werner Mohr was Chair of the Board of the 5G Infrastructure Association in 5G PPP of the EU Commission from its launch until December 2016. He was chair of the "Wireless World Research Forum – WWRF" from its launch in August 2001 up to December 2003. He was member of the board of ITG in VDE from 2006 to 2014. He is co-author of a book on "Third Generation Mobile Communication Systems" a book on "Radio Technologies and Concepts for IMT-Advanced" and a book “Mobile and Wireless Communications for IMT-Advanced and Beyond”. In December 2016 Werner Mohr received the IEEE Communications Society Award for Public Service in the Field of Telecommunications.

Presentation Title: 5G - Chances and Challenges from Test & Measurement Perspective

Biography: Meik Kottkamp is Principal Technology Manager within the Test & Measurement Division of Rohde & Schwarz in Munich. He is responsible for strategic marketing and product portfolio development covering the enhancements in existing and new 3GPP technologies. His focus is on LTE-Advanced Pro and the developing 5G technology. Meik joined Rohde & Schwarz in August 2007 after working 11 years for Siemens and NSN, respectively. He holds a Dipl.-Ing. degree of Electrical Engineering with focus on radio frequency technology from the University of Hannover / Germany.
