Reflecting on the DVCon Europe 2024 Keynotes

I must admit that when I was a young PhD student going to conferences, I considered the keynote talks as a waste of time. I wanted the papers and posters, the deep stuff and not the high-level fluff. Today, I count the keynotes as among the most interesting part of a conference. A great conference requires great keynote speakers. I even signed up to be the keynote chair for DVCon Europe 2024! How things change!

Last year at DVCon, we had Philippe Notton and Michaela Blott. Here are a couple of photos in case you missed it:

For this year’s DVCon Europe, we have two fantastic keynote speakers lined up. It will be just as good as last year! Our speakers will cover artificial intelligence and automotive silicon. AI is inescapable, and, given that we hold the conference in Germany, it would be almost dereliction of duty to not tap into the world of automotive.

On the first day of the conference, Thomas Boehm from Infineon will talk about “Dependable Microcontroller Architectures”. Thomas currently leads Infineon’s automotive microcontroller business unit, and he will talk about the major changes currently happening to automotive electronics. Complexity is increasing as control systems become more integrated, electrification changes how vehicles are designed, and chips must be both dependable and able to harness AI – while remaining affordable. Not an easy challenge at all.

On the second day, Erik Norden from a stealth startup will talk about the “Next 10x in AI”. Erik has a long career building AI accelerators across multiple companies and has seen AI both from the user and hardware designer perspectives. His talk promises to “offers a holistic view of the evolving AI landscape, providing engineers a roadmap for navigating and contributing to the future of AI acceleration and its applications” (to quote the abstract). And who knows, maybe Erik will reveal the name of the startup at the conference? It is a first to have a secret company present at DVCon Europe!
